Teaching English

While volunteering in both Thailand and Laos, I had the opportunity to teach English across numerous schools in many villages. I was able to teach all ages from infants to adults with skills ranging from basic colors and numbers to complex sentences, helping villagers with business vocabulary.

This experience enabled me to develop lesson plans and effective teaching methods for each age range. Each age group learned differently, as some have different learning styles, attention spans, and, of course, the language barrier was difficult to overcome. I was a literacy tutor my senior year of high school, so I've taught English before however this was a lot more difficult. The language barrier made teaching more into a big game of charades. We were able to act out most of the language goals and the students were able to develop an understanding over sometime.

Teaching abroad has shown me a whole new perspective on spreading knowledge. There are so many different ways of teaching and developing ways of learning than I had previously thought. I will carry these ways of developing ways of teaching and understanding with me through my journey of physical therapy as every patient's situation is unique and every patient will react differently throughout their recovery.
